Yuzu Shio Ramen
The house favourite: the clear shio broth lifted with a breath of yuzu peel. Bright, clean, and gone far too quickly.

Bow once · One golden bowl
Otori Taisha's hushed forest first. Eight minutes on foot, a bowl of golden, crystal-clear shio ramen. The half-day Osaka locals keep for themselves.

While Namba moves shoulder to shoulder, Otori — fifteen minutes south of Tennoji by JR — keeps time with a shrine bell. This is how a local would spend your afternoon.
Ride the JR Hanwa Line about 15 minutes from Tennoji, or 35 minutes direct from Kansai Airport on the Kansai Airport Rapid. Comfortable shoes are all you need.
Forget the vermilion gates of Kyoto. Otori's torii is pale, unpainted timber. Beyond it lie the Chigusa forest, a main hall in Ōtori-zukuri — one of Japan's oldest shrine styles — and the legend of the hero Yamato Takeru, who returned here as a white bird.

Take home the transparent omamori. Otori Taisha was the first shrine in Japan to offer a clear amulet, in 2023. Amulet office 9:00–16:30.
Head toward JR Otori Station and cross to the East Exit side. Around 600 metres of low rooftops and quiet lanes — the Japan that never makes the guidebook cover.

Slip under the wave-print noren and order the yuzu shio. Drink the broth all the way down. That's the whole point.

Flying out? Otori is a Kansai Airport Rapid stop — 35 minutes to KIX without changing trains.

02The Broth
Shio is the most honest ramen there is. No dark soy, no wall of fat — every shortcut shows. So Shiojin builds its gold slowly.
“From Sakai, we aim to make the most delicious shio ramen in all of Osaka.”
堺から大阪で一番“おいしい”塩ラーメンを目指します。
Seawater from Miyagi Island, Okinawa, turned into a powder-fine salt holding 21 minerals — a Guinness World Record. It tastes rounded, almost sweet, never sharp.
Chicken bones form the backbone, with vegetables and pork bones folded in for body. Poured, it settles into a pale amber that holds the light.
Gentle on salt and light on the stomach, this is a broth people lift the bowl for. Leave the spoon. Tip the bowl.
